Lake Nockamixon is an ideal place for the beginner to learn to sail. Located near Quakertown, PA, it is the largest fresh water lake within 45 minutes of Philadelphia. The Lake is approximately seven miles long with marina docking facilities for 648 boats. The winds on Lake Nockamixon average around 10 miles per hour and create nearly ideal sailing conditions for the beginning sailer. The water is clean, has good depth, and few hazards. As power boats are limited to a maximum of 20 HP engines, the majority of boats on Lake Nockamixon are sailing vessels. Directions: Lake Nockamixon is located along PA 563, just off of PA 313, five miles east of Quakertown and nine miles west of Doylestown. The marina entrances are along PA 563 and can be reached from PA 309 and PA 313, or from the north on PA 412.
